Simple Proposal/Grant Writing

Every Grant has 8 components:

  1. The Executive Summary – Gives a brief overview of the entire proposal and provides the reader with context for understanding all the other sections.
  2. Introduction to Applicant – Tells the reader about the organization who is asking for money
  3. The Problem Statement – Describes why the applicant is asking for funding, what situation caused the need, and why it should be important to the reader. The “outcomes” section will reflect the change in the problem, and the “methods” section will discuss how those are accomplished.
  4. Outcomes – Measurable improvements on the problem statement
  5. Methods – Presents the plan that produces the outcomes. The methods respond to the causes of the problem and detail the approach by the applicant to the implementation of given funding.
  6. Evaluation Plan – Describes a plan for assessing program activities: a) process evaluation b)outcome evaluation
  7. Future Support – Describes the strategy for sustaining the program after grant funding ends
  8. Budget – Delineates expenses to be met by the funder and the resources to be provided by the applicant, justifying each expense: a) General Budget  b) Budget Narrative
